Gonda: Children with disabilities studying in council-run schools in Gonda will receive assistive devices based on their individual needs under the Inclusive Education Programme of Samagra Shiksha. A testing camp was organised at the Block Resource Centre (BRC), Pandri Kripal, to assess the requirements of children and recommend suitable equipment to support their education and independent mobility.
The camp was organised under the inspiration of the District Magistrate and the guidance of the Chief Development Officer, with District Basic Education Officer Amit Kumar Singh leading the initiative. The event was conducted by Block Education Officer Anjani Kumar Singh in collaboration with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India Limited (ALIMCO), Kanpur.
221 Children Participate in Assessment Camp
District Coordinator, Samagra Shiksha, Rajesh Kumar Singh, who organised the camp, said approximately 221 children from the development blocks of Pandri Kripal, Itiyathok, Jhanjhari and Mujehna participated in the assessment. By the time of reporting, 215 children had undergone testing.
The assessment was carried out by ALIMCO, Kanpur personnel, including Prosthetics and Orthotics specialists Amar Bahadur and Abdul Rahman, audiologist Harendra Kumar Singh, data operator Harshit Tiwari and technician Gaurav Tiwari. Dr A.K. Gupta from the Community Health Centre was also present during the medical assessment.
Equipment Recommended According to Individual Needs
Based on the assessments, recommendations were made for a range of assistive devices, including:
- Tricycles
- Wheelchairs
- Crutches
- Callipers
- Hearing aids
- CP chairs
- Teaching-Learning Material (TLM) kits
- Braille kits for children with visual impairments
Children who participated in the camp were issued recommendation slips acknowledging the equipment prescribed for them. These slips will serve as the basis for receiving the equipment during the distribution camp scheduled for November 28, 2026.
The recommended assistive materials will be distributed free of cost.
Inclusive Education Aims to Ensure Equal Opportunities
The Inclusive Education Programme under Samagra Shiksha aims to provide equal opportunities for elementary education to every child in the 6–14 age group. The initiative seeks to address the difficulties faced by children with special needs and help them access education without barriers.
Providing suitable assistive devices is expected to improve accessibility, support independent movement and enable children with disabilities to participate more effectively in school activities.
Special Educators Support Camp
Several special educators and education department personnel contributed to the smooth conduct of the camp. Those involved included Vinay Kumar Singh, Sunit Kumar Mishra, Ravi Pratap Singh, Sachin Pratap Singh, Amanjay Jaiswal, Animesh Chandra Pandey, Pulkit Shukla, Savita, Kumkum Chaudhary, Vijay Kumar, Satyadev Singh and Avinash Singh.
BRC MIS Coordinator Adarsh Singh also provided support during the assessment process.
The initiative reflects the education department’s efforts to strengthen inclusive education and ensure that children with disabilities receive the support and resources necessary for their continued learning and development.
